#8 Seed Muhlenberg Captures First District 3 Hoops Title In School History

Written by: Bruce Badgley on February 29, 2020

The seeds for the 2020 Muhlenberg basketball season were planted in the court in Hershey one year ago. A disappointing loss in the District title game became a driving force for the Muhlenberg Head Coach Ty Nesby , his team and a community. All the pent up emotions and skills of a team on a mission were on display for all to see in a fabulous district playoff run. In memorable fashion Muhlenberg captured its first District Three basketball title Friday night beating Milton Hershey 71-62 at the Giant Center in Hershey

Muhlenbergs Jake Stoudt came to play Friday night. Jake had ice water in his veins and drained six three pointers to lead the Mules in scoring with 18 points.  Ruben Rodriguez turned in another stellar performance with 15 Anthony Espinoza who sent the game to overtime with a three and who made key free throws down the stretch also had 15.  Josh Parra was THE MAN for Milton Hershey all night  he was virtually unstoppable inside and had a game high 21 points despite foul trouble

The Mules embraced the big stage right from the start  Jake Stoudt’s three to end quarter one put the Mules up 16-11 after one

Muhlenberg’s solid play continued in quarter two  Spearheaded by some ball hawking defense Muhlenberg led at the break 33-24

Milton Hershey is to good of a team to keep down. The Spartans came roaring back in the third quarter led by Parra to move ahead 44-42 going to the fourth quarter.

Both teams left it all on the court in quarter four Anthony Espinoza hit a three in a frantic last few seconds of regulation to send it to an extra period.

Muhlenberg controlled the overtime period and never looked back  The Mules culminated this improbable District Title run with a 71-62 win  Incredible
