READING HIGH RUNS ALL OVER GOVERNOR MIFFLIN 78-29

The Reading High basketball program and Head Coach Rick Perez have very high expectations.  Coming off a PA 6A state title, having key players leave for the next level, some fans may have lowered the expectation.  It is clear that Coach Perez and this Red Knights squad have not lowered expectations at all.  Reading High has come out each game this year to prove a point. Thursday night against Governor Mifflin was no different.  The Red Knights skill, intensity and athleticism was on display for all to see. Reading moved its record to 12-2 with a  78-29 Berks I league win over the Mustangs.

Xavier Starks led a balanced Red Knight attack with 18 points.  It took a half to get comfortable but Larry Wingo took charge in the second half with 14 points.  Wesley Butler was again solid with 12.  Darius Copeland led the way for Mifflin 9.

Reading High never trailed in the game.  The Red Knights overcame a sluggish first quarter to lead 16-7. The intensity and the mismatch became evident in quarter two when the Red Knights made it a 94 foot game.  Halfway through the second Reading had pushed the lead to 12, and a 10-1 run to finish the half made it 32-13 at the break.

The Reading pressure created havoc on Governor Mifflin in quarter three.  The Red Knights accelerated to a 55-26 advantage after three.  Mifflin failed to score a point for the first five minutes of the fourth and the fans whipped the gym into a feeding frenzy of steals and turnovers for Reading.  The final was Reading 78 Mifflin 29.

A tough test awaits the Knights Saturday against a top ranked Hazelton club  Mifflin goes on the road to face Dallastown.
