Lebanon 34 ELCO 29

Lebanon Tip off

A battle of Lebanon Co champs provided us with some tense moments and a quality early season game.

Lebanon was the LL champ last season. The Cedars are trying to plug in some key losses- Big man, Isaiah Rodriguez, and injured guard Luke Collins. The ELCO Raiders lost 4 yr starter – Braden Bohannon – now a starter on Lebanon Valley College. Lebanon was a bit quicker, whereas, ELCO is a LOT bigger. Neither team got out to a very comfortable lead, and each team had some major x/o decisions down the stretch.

The Cedars had a 5 point lead twice in the first quarter. A string of buckets by Adrian Cruz (3 ball), Kevin Smith (drive), and a lay-up by Cruz. 7-2 early. ElCO would answer with a sweet post move by Corey Attivo and a reverse by Rheece Shuey. The Cedars closed the quarter on a triple by Marquis Ferreira. 11-6 after one.

The second quarter produced another lower scoring stanza. The Cedars would only net 5 points. The Raiders big man, Attivo, finished the ELCO scoring by netting the last 7 points.
18-16 ElCO at the half.

Lebanon had trouble getting inside ELCO’s zone and sagging man defenses. The third period gave us another low scoring quarter. The Cedars did pop 2 triples – Ferreira and Cruz. ELCO’s Luke Williams netted all the Raiders points in the period. 25-24 after 3.

ELCO clawed out a 27-24 lead on a reverse by Shuey (sound familiar?). Both teams were ice cold from the field, until the Cedars hit back to back three balls – Cruz and Emanuel Mason. The Cedars held a slim 30-27 advantage with about 4 minutes to go. After an ELCO miss, the Cedars had the ball. ELCO decided to stay back as the Cedars ran off (ok hold the ball-literally). There was an out of bounds at the 2 minute mark. ELCO fouled a few times to get the Cedars into the bonus. Lebanon missed the one plus and put Attivo on the line. He drilled both fouls cutting the lead to 1 with under 50 seconds to go. The rock steady guard, Ferreira, sank 2 foul shots- Cedars by 3. ELCO had the ball but did not get a good look at the end. Cruz sank 2 fouls shots to make the final count 34-29.
