The first night of the LL featured 2 teams that have aspirations of getting a section crown and more. Warwick played Monday and actually has had 3 games in 4 days. Etown entered tonight’s game coming off a tough loss to a very very tall Exeter team. Warwick features a small scrappy bunch led by Tate Landis. Etown counters with height- the brothers Gilhool , Pat at 6’3” and Matt at 6’9”.
Warwick would jump out early- 8-2- 2 three balls by Landis sandwiched between a layup by Nate Johnson. The Bears would counter with a three ball by Tech Gonquoi, a drive by Brandon Cummings, and post move by Matt Gilhool. Carter Horst added to the total by hitting to 3 balls and a layup for Warwick. The Warriors would take a 1 point lead going into the second quarter.
A mini spurt by the Warriors would grow the lead to 18-12 with about 4 minutes left in the period. Warwick switched it’s defense to a 2-3 zone to try to bottle up Matt Gilhool. Matt would have a sequence where he blocked 3 shots on the same possession and brother Pat would net in the final points of the quarter to tie the game at 18 at the break.
Etown took a brief lead in the third, but Landis would propel the Warriors with a nice jumper, a quick assist and one foul shot. 25-22 middle of the third. Etown switch over to a 3-2 zone, but the Warriors answered with 2 three balls (Landis and Ryan Fink). Warwick would end the third on a 10-0 -scoring on a variety of ways. 39-26 after three.
Etown pressed in the 4th. The Bears cut the lead to 8 at one point. The home town crowd enjoyed a slam by Matt Gilhool during the mini run. Warwick settled down a bit and made most of their foul shots down the stretch to secure the W.
