BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Nate Kreitzer (5-9 senior guard) is one of several key players which have led Greater Nanticoke Area to a 6-0 start on the season. In a 58-35 win over Riverside, he scored 21 points (with 3 triples). In Saturday’s high-powered Conference Challenge, the senior connected on 9 points as the Trojans topped Holy Cross, 51-41. Monday night, the talented guard netted 17 points (with 4 treys) in a 62-34 victory over West Scranton. Finally, in Thursday night’s Wyoming Valley Conference tip-off against Wilkes-Barre Coughlin, Kreitzer connected on 10 triples (43 points total) including his career 1,000th in a 65-39 win over the Crusaders.
George Tinsley (6-6 senior forward) continues to impress fans with his ability to change the momentum of a game toward his Abington Heights’ squad. He helped lead the defending 5A state-champion Comets to a pair of come-from-behind road wins. At Williamsport last week, he rallied his team for a 65-59 win over the Millionaires scoring 28 points. In Saturday’ afternoon’s match-up at The Mecca, Pottsville was able to hold off the Comets in the final period as the Tide prevailed, 57-46. Then, in Tuesday’s night’s much-awaited confrontation among District 2 powers, the Binghamton-bound senior netted 27 points as AH rallied from a 13-point second half deficit to defeat the Blue Knights, 52-50.
GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Moriah Murray (5-8 freshman guard) is playing a significant role in what is sure to be another memorable campaign for Dunmore. The freshman guard netted 29 points (including 6 treys) in a 65-43 win over West Scranton. In Monday’s impressive win over highly-regarded Holy Redeemer, she connected on 26 points (with 5 triples). Then, in Thursday’s battle against District 11 East Penn Conference contender Parkland, Murray recorded 13 points to keep the Lady Bucks undefeated at 5-0.
Gracie Guarino (5-6 senior guard) has Western Wayne (6-1) playing very well through their non-league schedule. The senior guard hit 17 points as the Lady Wildcats defeated Lakeland, 61-30. In their 39-33 victory Mid Valley, Guarino scored 10 points. In Monday’s 40-25 win over Mountain View, she netted 11 points. Finally, in Wednesday’s matchup against Lackawanna League Division 4 favorite Susquehanna Community, the senior contributed 8 points in a 36-30 win over the Lady Sabers.
