BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Jake Curnow (6-4 senior forward) has helped lead a resurgence of Lakeland basketball this season.  Last week, he scored 12 points as the Chiefs upended division leader Mid Valley, 39-35.  Then, in a crossover victory over Elk Lake, the powerful forward contributed 14 points in their 53-36 win over the Warriors.  Tuesday night, in a hard-fought battle against perennial contender Holy Cross, the senior netted 14 points in a 55-48 loss as the Crusaders pulled away from a halftime tie game.

Mike George (5-9 junior guard) is one several catalyst players which have turned Pittston Area in to a serious contender.  He scored 14 points as the Patriots secured a thrilling last-second 54-53 victory over Wilkes-Barre Meyers.  The tenacious guard then hit 16 points as the Pats defeated Tunkhannock, 60-50, enabling his team to exceed last year’s 6-win total.  Then, on Tuesday night in an emotional battle against top rival Wyoming Area, the junior netted 22 points in a 70-47 win.  Over the three games, George connected on 7 triples.
