Lancaster Catholic 61 McDevitt 59 (OT) Boys 4A – clips and thoughts
Written by: Dell Jackson on February 27, 2020
Lancaster Catholic wins on a buzzer beater by David Kamwanga to claim the District 3 4A crown.
McDevitt took control in the first half – ending on an 8-0 run to take a 34-23 lead into the half.
We talked with Coach Joe after the game as he said they made some adjustments on the offensive end to try to counter McDevitt’s pressure defense. He said they wanted to attack more on the baseline…and so they did.
The third quarter featured buckets by Trey Wells, Devin Atkinson (10 pts- including 3 three-balls), a sweet baseline drive by Calan Titus, and huge triple at the buzzer by Nevin Roman. 41-39 LCHS after three. McDevitts Kenyon Elliot had to go to the bench with foul trouble, which hurt McDevitt on both ends of the floor.
Catholic would stretch the lead a few times to 4 points and even 6 only to see McDevitt come back and come back again. A three bomb by McDevitt’s Kenon Elliot cut the lead to 3. Fouls shots by Jake Kelly and a bucket would bring McDevitt to a tie at the end of regulation. LCHS had the last shot but ..not close.
OT…LCHS would get out..McDevitt would come back…Catholic ran the last minute off the clock, and with time running out, David Kamwanga would hit a 15 foot jumper with guys hanging on him to secure the title for the Crusaders.
