McCaskey, Hempfield, Cedar Crest, Warwick, Lancaster Catholic, Lebanon, Lancaster Mennonite, Manheim Central? Okay, okay. While maybe the Barons’ historical success on the hardwood — or lack thereof — may not exactly have them shoving others for space at the blue blood table with the some of the names of the above going all the way back to the early 70’s perhaps, but the very real fact of the matter nonetheless has been that over the last decade and change, Manheim Central has indeed been among the highest-performing programs in all the L-L League on the boys’ basketball scene.

The agent of change who is largely credited with bringing this change of pace to Barons’ basketball? Chris Sherwood. Sure enough, once Sherwood decided to step down, the baton ultimately got handed off to one of his most loyal assistants, Charlie Fisher, who more than kept things afloat in his tenure in Manheim which included a league championship game appearance in addition to making the state playoffs.

Then, once Fisher decided to hang it up this spring, it seemed only natural that MC go back to the same playbook in finding his successor. Enter new head man, Brady Sipe.

We recently had the chance to chat with Coach Sipe about his exciting new chapter ahead by going in a number of different directions. Among them, trying to fill the shoes of not just one of the more underappreciated X’s & O’s coaches, but also one of the league’s best characters in Fisher, how he has gone about filling out a staff, and what makes him most excited in making his own move up from the JV to varsity ranks, quite literally in his sense, considering Sipe’s most recent title in serving as Barons’ JV coach.

We wish Coach Sipe all the best in his tenure and look forward to seeing he and the Barons on the floor this winter.

Enjoy
