Freshman Sensation DeMere Salisbery Leads Conestoga Valley To Upset Victory Over Manheim Central In L-L Quarterfinals

Salisbery’s foul shot with four seconds left in the game gave CV a 48-47 upset victory over Manheim Central in a thriller. It was Manheim Central’s first loss inside the “Derb” which opened up this year. Manheim held a three-point lead with 2:31 left but could not hang on.

Two huge foul shots by CV’s Camryn Bair tied the game at 45-45. After Manheim Central failed to convert two foul shots, Salisbery took over as he gave CV its first lead since the 3:20 mark of the third quarter, 47-45, with 24 seconds remaining. Manheim answered with a bucket by Zeiset to tie the game at 47 with eight seconds left. With the game on the line, CV put the ball in the hands of Salisbery who drove the lane and was fouled at the 4 second mark. After missing the first, he drained the second to give CV the 48-47 lead. Central could not get off a shot in their final possession and lost the heartbreaker. For Manheim Central, this was the third consecutive year in which they lost a playoff game in the final seconds. 

The game started with two huge runs. Manheim Central ran out to a 10-0 lead, holding CV scoreless for the first four and a half minutes of the game. Then CV answered Central’s run with their own 13-0 run, giving them a 13-10 lead, holding Central scoreless for about six minutes. The game then settled down and featured six lead changes in the second quarter. CV took a 25-24 lead into the locker room after Connelly’s three brought Manheim Central close at the buzzer.

Manheim Central then took the lead and held it for most of the second half, until Salisbery took charge in the final minute.
