Cross Court Vision: Conestoga Valley v Warwick
Written by: Sterling Cross on January 22, 2025
On the Court:
Demere Salisberry was more demonstrative than in any of the three CV games I’ve seen prior. Not sure if that owed to the match up against Washington or just an effort to infuse his team with some energy as they got down early in this one, but it was noticeable.
Shout out 5’11” Warwick sophomore Gavin Sturgis. This is the 4th occasion I’ve had to see the Warriors so I was surprised to find myself wondering “who is that?” when number 10 checked in at the scorer’s table midway through the second quarter. I was even more surprised when he immediately picked up Salisberry on defense. The Warriors rotated defensive duties on Salisberry all night never letting him really get comfortable (20 point scoring performance notwithstanding). For Coach Christensen to have a sophomore on the bench he can trust to pick up the opposing teams best player mid-game feels unfair, especially considering all the other defensive options he has at his disposal – Johnsen, Washington, McCamant, Clausen, and Musser are all capable defenders who measure in anywhere between 6’2” and 6’5”.
Overall Thoughts:
Read Andy’s Take here, which offers a full play by play recap.
Up Next:
Warwick plays Cocalico tomorrow. With a win – that would put them up to 9 for the season. No other team in the league could eclipse that mark.
CV is on the road against Solanco.
Off the Court:
I saw Jerry Johnson and Cody Fisher in the stands while obviously watching Washington and Salisberry on the court. Four of the best in the Lancaster area at their position all in the same gym at the same time.
If you’re into sneakers, CV Coach Jim Shipper has on a pair of crispy legend blue Jordan 11 lows. Not to be out done, Warwick head man Chris Christensen had on the high top version of iconic Jordan 11 sneaker, in the wolf grey colorway.
I’ve posted some quick highlights to our Instagram story which will be up for the next 24 hours. Might post something more permanent later if I have time.
