Instant Classics: An 87-Point Performance Fuels Milton Hershey over Mifflin County Under Turner’s Career Game

Written by: David Bray on January 14, 2025

Milton Hershey just suffered their first loss of the season, and they came out hot to start the game against Mifflin County on Tuesday night, igniting their electric offense as they’ve shown all season long. Mifflin County kept strong with big performances of their own, showing their worth when almost fully healthy against a high-caliber team. Here’s the full recap of the Keystone Division game between Milton Hershey and Mifflin County.

In the first quarter, both teams came out guns a blazing, with the Spartans posting 18 points in the first 8 minutes, led by Khalif Turner with his first 6 points of the night, while Jack Curry on the other end kept his team alive with 5 points, giving the Huskies a 6 point gap between the two sides. The second quarter could’ve only been better than the first, with threes from Curry and Aidan Attivo lighting up the gym, along with Turner getting steals and turnovers to increase his point total with a 12-point quarter. Milton Hershey scored 24 points in a quarter, while Mifflin County added 20 to their total, putting up more points for both of their sides than most Keystone teams have done through 3 and a half quarters. At the end of the half, Curry and Attivo combined for 24 points and 4 threes made, while Turner had 18 points in the half on fast break layups, mid-range jumpers, and free throws from the charity stripe. With the crowd roaring and the score separated by 10 points, who knew what would happen in the second half of the game?

For starters, Milton Hershey, in the second half alone had 45 points. That half alone would’ve beaten Mifflin County in 5 of their 10 games this season. Mifflin County put up 68 points, putting the game second in their point total for a game this season, and would’ve beaten 9 of their 10 opponents, with the only loss coming from a 78-point performance by Hershey. The offensive performances by both of these teams were so dominant that no other team would’ve been able to keep up if the scores were switched from the other Tuesday games. Milton Hershey was led by, you guessed it, Khalif Turner. Remember the name of the DC native who put up 34 points tonight while dishing out 3 assists and grabbing 6 rebounds for the Spartans, while sitting out almost the entirety of the fourth quarter. Turner put up 14 points in the third quarter, putting him on pace to score 40 points, however, a quick foul in the fourth put him on the first seat of the bench for the rest of the game. Josh Sessoms finished behind Turner with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Abdou Diene grabbed another double-double, his 4th of the season, posting 12 points and 10 rebounds. Dylan Crawford and Steven Dao both contributed 8 points while Aryan Sandhu tacked on an additional 7 points for the Spartans.

On the other side of the court, Mifflin County had one of their best offensive performances all year, with Jack Curry, Aidan Attivo, and Luke Bender playing the roles of the core of the offense, with 43 points between the three, not counting the points responsible for from assists. Jack Curry finally showed his skills after missing a stint with injury and regaining his form, with a 26-point, 5-rebound game, making 5 threes and staying consistent with his shooting. Aidan Attivo had a good night, with 15 points and 3 threes, however, he was stuffed to just five points in the second half after a great first-half performance caused double teams and face-guarding to occur. Luke Bender, despite posting only 2 points, dished out 10 assists to the team and created scoring chances galore for the Huskies. Bender did foul out in the fourth quarter, stopping his scoring and assisting efforts for the night.

This game was just fun to watch from a fan perspective, as the Milton Hershey crowd was in full force to watch the game. It was a thriller to watch and was very close up until the end. Both teams have tough challenges next, with Milton Hershey facing Hershey tomorrow and Mifflin County taking on Red Land on Friday.
