Hershey Upsets L-S 35-26 In District 3 5A Boys Quarterfinal

(Lancaster) #7 Seed Hershey came into Thursday night’s boys 5A quarterfinal with #2 Seed Lampeter-Strasburg with momentum.  The Trojans dominated in an opening round win.  L-S Head Coach Ed Berryman had some concerns on the effect an opening round bye would have on his Pioneers. Both teams struggled on offense the entire contest.  Hershey especially put the clamps on the Pioneer offense in the second half.  The Trojans even held L-S scoreless in the pivotal fourth quarter.  When the dust settled on this one, Hershey came away with a hard fought 35-26 District 3 5A tournament win.

Leading all scorers was Luke Hines from L-S with 15.  Matt Didonatis led the Trojans with 12 points.  Next up for Hershey is a trip to Reiffton to meet the #3 Seed Exeter Eagles Monday.  L-S still has basketball to play in the consolation bracket.

It was a slow start by both teams.  The Pioneers led 9-7 after quarter one.

Luke Hines for L-S made his presence felt in the first half.  His 11 points led all scorers at the break and gave the Pioneers a 19-12 halftime lead.

The Second half was a different story for the Hershey offense.  Things began to click, but still trailed L-S 26-23 after three quarters. 

A combination of poor shooting luck and tough Hershey defense kept L-S scoreless in quarter four.  The Trojans kept pouring it on to pull away with
