Celebrating (And Commemorating) A Memorable Finish To Wrap Up Last Week
Written by: Andy Herr on December 14, 2025
This past week saw the start of section play officially commence around the Lancaster-Lebanon League. Typically, that would be the most newsworthy tidbit that the week would usually offer. However, especially at the tail end of the week in particular, the L-L was fortunate enough to see some key milestones be reached from both those wearing zipups as well as those in uniforms.
On the coaching side, Cocalico’s Seth Sigman, now in his 10th year on the bench of his alma mater, hit the 100-win plateau (per Cocalico records) in the Eagles’ 65-32 win over Garden Spot this past week. In doing so, Sigman now becomes the 3rd coach in school history to lead the program to 100-plus wins over the course of their tenure while joining his predecessor, Travis Wealand (130 wins), along with Ed Mcllmoyle (169 wins), the coach who oversaw the program’s run to a state championship in 1977.
On Friday night, the players — namely the players in Section Four — stole the show.
First, needing all of 24 points heading into their game on Friday night, Lancaster Mennonite’s Chase Hurst left no stone unturned in the Blazers’ romp over Columbia to kick off Section Five play, not the least of which included Hurst netting 25 points against the Crimson Tide, a performance which helped the Blazers’ senior guard join the Lancaster Mennonite 1,000-point club. In reaching that number, Hurst becomes the sixth Blazer to reach the four-digit crew in school history (per LLHoops’ records), and is the first since his elder brother, Camden Hurst, did the same during his 2023 state championship senior season while en route to becoming the school’s all-time scoring champ in the process.
Not to be outdone, Lancaster Country Day’s Jordan Ashby did exactly the same on Friday evening as well.
Also in a win, a 53-37 Cougars’ win over Annville-Cleona, Ashby reached 1,o00 career points while still fresh off being an integral part of Country Day’s most successful season ever in program history last year. With Ashby, a senior, hitting that mark, he now becomes the 10th Cougar all-time to accomplish such a feat and is the 3rd Country Day Cougar in terms of the school’s time as an L-L member institution to hit the mark with Ashby now joining forces alongside fellow guards Andrew Williams and Grant Landis who did so in 2019 and 2022 respectively.
We extend our congratulations to these three individuals and look forward to chronicling more history-making items as they arise this season.
