Meet The New Guys: Julian Collazo (Columbia)

We continue our video series of get-to-know-you interviews with a name and face that is probably already very familiar to familiar to the LLHoops audience. Say hello (again) to now “Coach” Julian Collazo of the Columbia Crimson Tide.

For most fans, they probably remember Collazo best for his playing while playing for Lancaster Mennonite, becoming one of the top players in the entire league during his Blazer playing days — something best exemplified by his career point total of 1,398 — a number which was tops in program until a guy by the name of Cam Hurst came along and surpassed that. 

We recently had the chance of catch up with Coach (right before a workout ironically enough) about those LMH days, what he’s been up to post-Mennonite, and some of the lessons he hopes to take away from Geoff Groff, Seth Buckwalter, and Jerry Johnson, all of whom Collazo either played or coached under, a triumervate of coaches who led teams to a state semifinal or better at one point during their respective tenures. 

As Coach knows full well, when that joint up on The Hill is jumping like he remembers it when he had to contend against it, it’s in a category all its own in terms of a true homecourt advantage. We are excited and look forward to seeing if Coach Collazo is able to get the Tide back to that familiar feel.
