Meet The New Guys: Marshall Usner (Garden Spot)

Not all of these jobs are created equal necessarily. For some, a chance at getting a head coaching gig — even if you yourself have absolutely no skin in the game or any personal connection to program or area whatsoever — is good enough. For others, there’s only open slot that would ever garner their interest to become so invested.

It’s been said that no one washes a car with a level of care and detail quite like the owner. For certain, when it’s something you care passionately about and are heavily invested in, you’re bound to treat it with a unique level of attention that few others could possibly replicate. And that’s precisely what the new head coach of the Garden Spot Spartans intends to do now that he is on the job.

For Marshall Usner, the new man tasked with leading the Spartans’ basketball program, he himself has seen this program at some of its highest of heights. Both from his time wearing the uniform, but also in the years that followed where he traded in the Garden Spot jersey for that of a polo shirt while serving as an assistant coach for some of the best Spartans’ teams of recent years, including one that made a pit stop in the PIAA state playoffs within the last decade.

We recently had the chance to sit down with Coach to get take his take on all things Spot Hoops. Including but not limited to, why he wanted to take this job on now, what his Day 1/Year 1 goals are, and what he envisions this program can be in the years to come. We thank Coach Usner for the awesome conversation and look forward to watching he and the Spartans climb their way back up the section pecking order — a place where Usner is more than accustomed to seeing Garden Spot residing.

Enjoy
