Questions
- Why did you decide to start playing basketball?
“As I grew up, sports were always in my family and I was always around it. No matter if I was watching it or playing it, basketball has always been my favorite. My father played college basketball and coached me all through elementary school. He has taught me almost everything I know about the game. My mother was always there to rebound for me no matter the circumstance. Basketball has always been a part of me and I am extremely grateful for what my family has done for me ever since I started playing.
- What’s your favorite part of the game of basketball?
“One of my favorite parts is the bond you build with your teammates. This game has given me many friendships along the way and I am very thankful for them. And lastly, the process. The best part about the game is the work you put into it. I love to be pushed to become a better player with the goals you set for yourself.”
- What NBA/College basketball player do you model your game after and why?
“I never really modeled my game after a specific player. But I was always taught that you could never be too good at shooting and dribbling. Therefore, I watched guys like Steph Curry, Kyrie Irving, and Paul George. I would pick up on some of their mechanics and tendencies and try and relate to them in my game.”
- What’s your favorite moment from your high school basketball career up to this point?
“So far, the best moment of my high school career was making the district playoffs my sophomore year. My sophomore season really matured me as a player and a person. I had some of the best teammates I will ever have who pushed me, taught me, and gave me a lot of confidence as a player. I also created some of the best bonds with those teammates and they will be my friends for life.”
- What are your goals for the upcoming 2024-2025 high school basketball season?
“My goal is to win the section and take this team to the playoffs. We work too hard as a team to not make some noise this year. I know we can surprise a lot of people if we stay the course and stay humble. I like our chances and I love being the underdog.”
- What are your plans for after high school?
Sawyer recently committed to play college basketball at NCAA Division II Bloomsburg University.
