It is called the “Backyard Brawl” in football, I call it the “Basketbrawl” when Berks Catholic and Wyomissing get together on the basketball court. BC and Wyo are just blocks apart. Any time the Saints and Spartans match up against one another, the intensity gets ratcheted way,way up. Lots of pre game emotion and excitement in Wyo Friday night. But Berks Catholic silenced the crowd with its performance almost immediately. The Saints jumped out quickly and never looked back. BC took care of Wyomissing 58-30 Friday night in Wyomissing.
The Saints balanced attack was led in scoring by Tre Dabney’s 13. Keba Mitchell had 12 points and continued to rule the paint. Casey Jack had a great night on the inside and chipped in with 10. Dominic Wise led the way for the Spartans with 10.
Berks Catholic’s formula for success this year has been to jump all over an opponent early. That was no different against Wyomissing. Three minutes into the gme and the Saints suffocating D had not allowed a point.. The D forced several turnovers throughout the quarter which led to easy fast break points. After one it was BC 22 Wyo 4. The BC defensive intensity never waned in quarter two. The D was the catalyst for more easy fast break baskets and shots. We went to halftime with Berks Catholic on top 33-8.
BC poured it on its rival as the second half began. Midway through quarter three the Saints were up 35-10. BC had all but put this one away after three 47-20. Both teams emptied their benches in quarter four. The final was Berks Catholic 58 Wyomissing 30
The (10-2) Saints have a big test this week. Tuesday BC hosts Wilson WL who fell Friday to Reading High by 2. Wyomissing now (3-8) moves to face Tulpehocken.
