WILSON’S FAST START AND STRONG FINISH TO MUCH FOR GOVERNOR MIFFLIN 54-39

The great thing about Section I of the Berks League, is that  it is mostly about the cross town rivals.  Tonight it was Governor Mifflin’s turn to head across town to face off against its athletic nemesis Wilson WL.  Mifflin was coming off a stinging loss at the hands of Exeter.  Wilson was riding high following a huge come from behind win over Steel High.  The Bulldogs used a strong first  quarter and a 22 point fourth quarter to turn away Governor Mifflin 54-39 Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs had a much needed strong scoring performance from Bryce Calloway.  Bryce’s 19 points paced all scorers.  Kyle Coldren and Logan Horst were key contributors with 13 and 12 points respectively.  Ben Walmer led the way again for Mifflin with 14.

Wilson started out aggressively heading to the basket, while Mifflin seemed to sleep walk through quarter one.  Wilson held a 17-7 lead after one.  Just when Mifflin turned it up, Wilson was the team playing with its feet in quicksand.  At the break Wilson managed only a 24-20 lead.

Governor Mifflin came out of halftime the more aggressive team. The Mustangs had cut the gap 32-31 after three.  Mifflin actually led by one in the fourth and that’s what woke up the Bulldogs  Wilson went on a run beginning at the five minute mark of the fourth quarter and never looked back.  The Bulldogs were up nine with 3:00 minutes to play.  Good free throw shooting was a big help down the stretch and the Bulldogs pulled away to win 54-39.

Wilson now 7-3 gets back in the saddle tomorrow night at Muhlenberg.  Governor (6-5)Mifflin’s next action is Friday night against those same Mules,
