Warwick 62 Lancaster Catholic 40

How to describe this game? Lancaster Catholic was playing without it’s 6’6” swing man Thaddeus Lee. The Warriors took some early blows by the Crusaders, but slowly, ever so slowly choked down the upset minded Crusaders- kind of like a Boa Constrictor. Make no mistake that Warwick can put up a bunch of threes and score in bunches, but tonight Warwick clamped down on the defensive end, controlled the boards and limited there turnovers.

Pop, pop….Warwick hit 2 triples and went out to an early 6-0 lead. Lancaster Catholic would answer with a 6-0 run of their own (fouls and a layup by Chris Koltunovich, 2 fouls shots by Leo Lambert). Catholic would use a 1-2-2 zone to slow the tempo and keep the Warriors on the perimeter. It seems like every time Warwick needs some offense, Carter Horst steps up. A three ball and a layup by the 6’1” jn ended the scoring after 1. 13-10 Warwick.

Host would pop another three ball in the middle of the second stanza as it appeared as though Warwick found its rhythm claiming a 20-14 lead. Lancaster Catholic would run off the next 8 points giving Catholic a brief lead at 22-20. Caleb Johnsen, 6’3” sop, nailed 2 three -balls late in the second to give the Warriors a 29-24 halftime lead.

Coach Chris Christensen implored his team to play defense throughout the game. Perhaps the Warrior heard him and acted upon his instructions in the third period. Warwick held the the Crusaders to 4 points after the 5 minute mark and slowly increased their lead 42-33 after 3.

Did I mention that Warwick could pump in threes? It took awhile, but it was raining threes in the 4th quarter. The Warriors connected on 4 triples in the quarter (Ya’Majesty Washington -2, Johnsen 1, and Amani Cooper 1). The defense mentioned earlier? Well another 7 points given up in the quarter by Warwick. Snake me! Both teams put in their subs and they actually played out the game. Cooper, 6’ Soph. , gave us a wow moment on a big time board late in the game.

Warwick will play Dallastown in the finals Wed. Evening. Lancaster Catholic will take on Penn Manor in the first game.
