Bishop Canevin (District 7 champ) made it’s 3 1/2 hour trip worth while. The Crusaders spent the night Wed., got up and got a shoot around, and dominated the glass on their way to the Boys 1A championship.
After a close first quarter (11-10), Canevin cut their turnovers down (from 7 to2) and controlled the glass (16 for the half). St John’s Davion Hill, 6’1” jn., scored 7 points in a row to give Neumann a brief lead at 17-16. Canevin would answer on a sweet dunk by Amari Adams, 6’3” freshman. Riding a 9-2 run, the Crusaders entered the half with a 29-21 lead.
Bishop Canevin took over the game in the third period. Kai Spears, 6’2” sn, popped 2 three balls to build the lead to 10 at 35-25. The Crusaders went on a `15-2 run, highlighted by a Jaden Gales,6’6” sn., dunk, multiple drives by RJ Sledge, and a drive by Kevaughn Price. Canevin 49-30 after three.
Neither team would put together major runs in the 4th. Both teams emptied their benches at the end.
