Cougars’ historic season ends in state quarterfinals

Lancaster Country Day’s historic 2023-2024 season came to end Friday night.

The Cougars suffered a 75-48 loss to Berlin Brothersvalley in the PIAA Class 1A state quarterfinals at McConnellsburg High School.

Senior guard/forward and Gannon University recruit Pace Prosser scored the Mountaineers’ first 11 points of the game, tallied 13 points in the first quarter, and finished the first half with 27 points. His final stat line of the night: 35 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Senior guard Craig Jarvis added 20 points and seven rebounds for Berlin Brothersvalley, who advances to the state semifinals.

LCDS was led by sophomore guard Jordan Ashby, who scored 22 points with 18 of them coming in the second half. Junior forward Ben Sponaugle registered eight points, six rebounds, and three assists while freshman guard Cam Harris tallied six points, five rebounds, and five assists for the Cougars.

Lancaster Country Day’s season ends with an 18-10 overall record. The Cougars’ advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time in program history during the 2023-2024 season.
