Column – Sept 25, 2022

Welcome back…LLhoops has been kind of dormant for a few months. Andy Herr has been keeping us up to date with some coverage via twitter of summer activities for some LL teams.

We did produce some content pieces recently:
Mike Drago- interview
Coach Ryan Shipper- Donegal
Coach Kris Uffner- Lebanon
Lancaster Hall of Fame Banquet.
Chris Johnson- Brandon Park Summer Hoops Director.

LLhoops.com is entering it’s 23rd season. What else is there to say?

50 years of the LL
Last season was the the 50th year of the formation of the Lancaster-Lebanon League. We did a few historical articles last season but it was difficult to capture an accurate account of some of the highlights of the LL. Dell Jackson enlisted Mike Gross to help with an idea of producing a book covering various aspects of the history of the LL. The project kept growing..and growing (articles featuring players, coaches, decades, and even a piece featuring a few LL refs appear in the finished version). We enlisted the help of Gordie Jones, Andy Herr, and John Walk to add some different perspectives on the history of the league. Photographers Mark P, Hosh Posh, and Max Molina contributed with images. The book is currently in the editing stage and should be released on kindle and amazon print to order by Nov. – just in time for a great Christmas present! Stay tuned.

Part of the forward by Mike Gross:
“It’s not the best league in the state and never will be, even if Philadelphia secedes from the Commonwealth. However, Lancaster-Lebanon has produced three state champions and 22 District 3 champions. It has been home to great players, coaches, colorful, rabid fans, rivalries, and stories.”

Looking ahead…
LLhoops live stream—in connection with our colleague Bruce Badgley and his new site, Sports Solutions Marketing, we will produce some live stream games this season. We also hope to bring to you for the 4th year in a row the LL boys and girls finals. We welcome any new sponsors to help with the production costs. Email webmaster@llhoops.com if interested. We have several packages available.

LLHoops Store…
Back in business…new item this year- LLHoops Beanies! We also have LLhoops Gray T-shirts in various sizes.
Thanks to one of our main sponsors H&L Team Sales.

HERE is the link to the store

LL format 2022-23
The LL is using 4 Sections this season. There will not be cross-over games that count towards the standings. Section champ ties will not be played off, as the league will designate co-champs and use tire breakers to determine placement for the league playoffs. Special thanks to CircleW Sports for setting the sections and helping with design of LLhoops.com

Lancaster Hall of Fame
Our own announcer and former Hempfield HS head coach, Warren Goodling, will be inducted to the Lancaster County Wall of Fame. The banquet is Oct . 13th at the Eden Resort in Lancaster. Warren Goodling coached for 25 years at Hempfield and had an overall record of 452-205.

Events…there will be several events in the fall for players to display their talents.

Spooky Nook fall league schedule can be found HERE.

Warwick is hosting a fall shootout Oct. 29th. Teams scheduled to participate:
Manheim Township, Wilson, Boiling Springs, Warwick, State College , Conestoga Valley, Lancaster Catholic, Garden Spot, Hempfield,  Elizabethtown,  Ephrata,  West York,  Central Mountain,  Dieruff,  Central Dauphin, Twin Valley

Schedules…we will start posting the 2022-23 schedules soon.

LL hoops preseason chat—Andy and Dell will do their annual zoom the weekend of Thanksgiving- enough time for bulletin board (do coaches use bulletin boards anymore?) material.

About 2 months and counting for the first practice of the 2022-23 season.
