ELCO 65 Spring Grove 56

ELCO defeated the Spring Grove Rockets to claim the first place trophy at the Lebanon tip off tournament. As llhoops was entering the Raiders rosters, there was nothing but guard, guard, and more guards. Although it might be said that some of the guards could be combo G/F players, the Raiders were undersized in this contest. However, they battled and battled on the boards and survived a garage of three balls to cap off their crown.

Both teams were probing the other for weaknesses in their defenses. Both teams played mostly man in the first quarter. Neither team would have more than a 4-0 run so the score at the end of the first was 14 all. Four different ELCO players scored in the period. The rockets hit 4 three balls- more to come as the game progressed.

Both teams tried some zone action in the second period. So, things slowed down on the scoring end. The Raiders turned to the 3 ball (Dallas George, Aidon Fritsch 2) scored all of the 9 points in the second. Spring Gove would outscore the Raiders 12- 9 to post a 26-23 lead at the half.

The third quarter belonged to ELCO. Again ,the Raiders would turn to the three ball (George, Micah Gray, and Kody Boyer), with a HUGE three at the buzzer by Boyer. Spring Grove would only score 5 points in the period – the last by Avin Myers, 6’2” jn, on a lob play at the 2:08 mark. ELCO 38 Spring Grove 31.

Spring Grove would hang in for most of the 4th quarter. Every time it seemed that ELCO would take charge, Ethan Glass would pop a three ball. Glass had 5 triples in the 4th quarter alone. Camden Marquette, 6’2” jn, would score 15 of his 19 points in the quarter (jumpers and 2 three balls). ELCO would handle the pressure fairly well and nailed 11/12 fouls shots down the stretch. The Rockets cut the lead to 4 at the :53 second mark, ELCO kept making its foul shots and put the game in the win column.

ELCO: Camden Marquette 19, Logan Kless 13, Dallas George 16
Spring Grove: Misael Santana 15, Ethan Glass 25 (8 threes)
