Executive Education Academy Charter & Bensalem Win

Executive Education Academy Charter and host Bensalem notched wins in the first round of the four team Dick Dougherty Memorial Tournament on Tuesday at Bensalem. EEAC defeated Norristown Area 55 to 48, and Bensalem swamped Lower Moreland, in a mercy rule game, 57 to 26. Both wins were wire-to-wire and never in doubt.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Executive Education Academy Charter had a big height advantage over Norristown. EEAC’s Moustapha Sanoh is a 6’ 10” senior, and Lamine Sanoh is a 6’ 9” junior. Both guys made it challenging for Norristown to score inside, and EEAC had a 38 to 21 rebounding advantage in this game. EEAC had a balanced attack in the contest, keyed by the versatile 6’ 3” sophomore Gabe Hornberger, who scored both from range and on slashes. Rylan Muniz, a 5’ 10” junior, made four 3-pointers in the game, three of them in the third quarter. Norristown was more effective in the second half of the game, but they had fallen too deeply into a hole in the first half, largely due to committing eight turnovers and to being decisively out-rebounded.

For the game, Norristown had 10 turnovers to 13 for EEAC. Norristown was 10 for 13 from the line, while EEAC was 7 for 15. EEAC made six 3-pointers, while Norristown Area made two.

Executive Education Academy Charter scoring: Gabe Hornberger 20, Rylan Muniz 12, Moustapha Sanoh 8, Lamine Sanoh 6, Josh Washington 5, and Jelerick Gonzalez 4.

Norristown Area scoring: Jaden Wise 13, Jayden Byrd 12, Andre Gordon 7, Myon Kirlew 6, Miles Daniels 4, Jonathan Brooks 3, and Roddy Gaymon 3.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Lower Moreland junior Kevin Hegedus opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, then host Bensalem scored the next 15 points. In building their 15-3 first quarter lead, Bensalem capitalized on inaccurate Lower Moreland shooting and on a 13 to three advantage on the boards. Lower Moreland also scored the first hoop of the second quarter, a 2-pointer by senior Ian Alicea. Then, Bensalem went on a 14-0 run, to make the score 29-5. Bensalem had a 25 to six advantage on the boards in the first half, and they made six 3-pointers in the first 16 minutes of the game. The mercy rule was triggered early in the second half.

Bensalem scoring: Jack Wineburg 17, Eric Gonzalez 13, Jaidyn Moffit 10, Idris Savadago 6, Noah Morris 3, Antonio Morris 2, Micah White 2, Christian Lee 2, and Amir Drummond 2.
