Exeter 69 Cedar Crest 55
Dec. 29, 2022

Cedar Crest has 4 losses – 2 of them to Exeter. The Falcons lost on Dec. 9th by a 62-42 score. Would the young Falcons revenge the earlier loss? No, but Crest put up a much better fight. Exeter’s only loss this season was to Berks Catholic. The Eagles feature a group that has many match-up problems for opponents – silky smooth forward Kevin Saenz, 6’3” jn, a beast in the middle with Anthony Caccese, 6’7” sn., a three ball specialist in Reece Garvin, 6’3″ jn, and a polished floor general in Zylon Paschall, 5’10” sn.

Exeter controlled the paint on both ends as the Eagles tallied 10, yes 10, blocked shots for the game and out rebounded the Falcon (27-12 unofficially). Every time Crest would make a run, Exeter would penetrate (Paschall) and feed Caccese for several post scores. Crest would hit a bunch of three balls (8) but not enough to put pressure on Exeter.

Exeter started out in man defense and sprinkled in some 2-1-2 full court slow press. The quick start 12-4 halfway thru the 1st, caused Crest to call 2 quick timeouts. The lead would stretch to 16-5, but Crest would answer with a three point play by Aiden Schomp, and 2 triples (Danny Speaks and J’Veon Reyes-Vega). 18-14 after one.

Neither team would string together any runs in the 2nd period. Crest cut the lead to 4 at 28-24 off another 3 ball by Reyes-Vega. Exeter dominated to boards (8-1), but the Eagles also had multiple turnovers (6). 37-31 at halftime.

Crest tied the score at 37 off of 2 triples by Reyes-Vega. Enter Mr. Caccese. The big man took over the game by scoring in the post (post, post, reverse, and layup)- very impressive. Also much credit should go to his teammates as the Eagles were patient getting the ball inside. When Crest started clogging the middle, Reece Garvin 6’3” jn, popped 2 triples in a row. The Eagles led 55-43 after 3.

Cedar Crest would try to traps on the defensive end – this led to a couple of quick buckets, but Exeter would adjust. Basically, get the ball into Paschall’s hands and make the Falcons chase. Crest tried the foul game late in the 4th but couldn’t make up the difference. Both teams put some subs in, and the Eagles coasted home with a 69-55 final.
