Hempfield, behind a strong performance by Miguel Pena, advances to the LL League semifinals and will take on Warwick Wednesday, February 15, at Conestoga Valley High School.
After a very tentative first quarter filled with many turnovers by both clubs, Hempfield led 11-8 as Michael Hester dropped in 8 of the 11 points.
In quarter 2, it was the Miguel Pena show as he scored 12 points, spurring Hempfield out to a 32-19 lead by the half. Lancaster Mennonite was paced by Camden Hurst, who lead LM’s scoring with 8.
Hempfield’s biggest lead of the game came early in the third quarter when they went up by 15. By the end of the third, Mennonite had cut Hempfield’s lead back to 10 behind more scoring by Camden Hurst. The fourth quarter saw Mennonite make a run at the Black Knights, twice cutting the lead to 5: 48-43 at the 6:50 mark and again at 50-45 with 4:50 left in the contest.
A key steal and breakaway dunk by Ben Troyer gave the Knights a 7 point lead and stemmed the Blazer momentum. The Knights stretched the lead to 10 and salted the game away at the foul line.
