The Hempfield Knights have strung together 4 W’s in a row with tonight’s game being a bit easier than the last 3. Hempfield ends it’s Section 2 cross-over games and prepares for the Section1 battles going down the stretch. The Knights are currently chasing Cedar Crest for the Section 1 crown and a possible LL final playoff berth. The Knights displayed good balance, some excellent perimeter shooting especially in the second half, and very good shot selection.

Conestoga Valley had several ‘wow’ play fast breaks – led by Cam Swinton. Swinton also had several steals on the defensive end. CV hung tough until a second half barrage by Hempfield.

Cole Overbaugh set the tone for the Knights by scoring 9 of Hempfield’s first 11 points- mostly on layups and inside post-ups. DeMajh Salisbery, 6’1” jn, would propel CV to a 12 -8 lead toward the end of the first by netting a beautiful reverse lay-up. Hempfield would counter with a 6-0 run to take a 14-12 lead after one.

CV’s Austin Wertz popped a three-ball, and Salisbery followed it up with a layup. CV 19-17. Hemfield’s head man, Danny Walck, would call a timeout at the 5:45 mark to settle his troops. Must have worked – Hempfield ran off a 12-0 run. Parker Wolfe was HOT- he scored on a drive, a layup , another layup and a three-ball as he had a 9-0 run of his own. Miggy Pena closed out the Hempfield run with a three-ball of his own. CV scored the last 5 point of the period to keep things relatively close: 29-24 at the break.

Hempfield’s Ben Troyer, 6’4” soph, usually gets his points in the second half. Well, tonight he netted 7 in the third period. Hempfield would string together a couple of mini runs….Yes, Mr. Wolfe hit another three-ball. Hempfield 45-36 after three.

The Buckskins would score the first points in the 4th on another layup by Salisbery. However, Hempfield would go on incredible run from the 7 minute mark until the 2 minute mark of the 4th. When I say incredible, well 17-0 does count as incredible. Seemed like every Knight got in on the action: Hester 3, Troyer put back, Troyer 3, Pena 3, Overbaugh layup, Pena three-ball and capped by a Pena fouls shot. Both teams allowed the subs to finish out the game.
