Lancaster Catholic 78 Biglerville 40
3A Boys First Round
March 2, 2021
The Crusaders are in familiar territory- movin’ on in the districts. However, each team is different and each teams needs its know identity. This team seems to built around balance and defense. Catholic was entering the game with a week lay-off, and they showed some rust early before cruising to a running clock ‘W’.
LCHS started the game in fine fashion- 9-5 early – keyed by 2 three-balls by sharp shooter, Ross Conway. Biglerville would battle back. Drew Parker, 6’3” sn, displayed a nice overall game. He put up 10 point in quarter 1 – jumpers, fouls, follows. Catholic would push the lead out to 19-9 with under 2 minutes to go to the end of the first. The Crusaders got their running game going- layup, Layup, post, follow, and follow. However, Biglerville would end the quarter cutting the lead to 21-16.
Biglerville would put together a run of their own to end the first and start the second. The Canners led 23 -21 after a layup by Parker, prompting Coach Joe Klazas of LCHS to call his second timeout of the half. As they say,” Whatever you said, save it for the next game”, resulting in a Catholic blitz of 18-0 to end the half at 39-23- with 5 different players posting points during the run. Classic run outs due to defensive pressure. Classic.
Nevin Roman, 5’10” senior guard, made sure there would be no come-backs by Biglerville. His defensive pressure caused 2 early turnovers- he posted 3 points during the start of the quarter. The closest that Biglerville got the contest was 44-29 only to see Lancaster Catholic go on another run- this time 13-0. Game set match. 63-32 after three——running clock for the rest of the game.
Lancaster Catholic got it’s reserves a lot of playing time tonight. The bench was encouraging as we have seen all year long. The Crusader Crazies, were not at full force but still managed to get into the game from their perch in the4 second deck.
