The Lancaster Mennonite Blazers took control of the game early, but they had to fight off a determined Steel High team after the break. The visiting Rollers cut a 20 point lead to under 10 in the third. LMHS weathered the storm and coasted to a W. The win places the Blazers in the 2A District finals for the third year in a row against an old foe-Antietam.

Myles Halvorsen, 6’2” Soph., opened the scoring for Mennonite. Halverson would play some key minutes in the game and come up big when least expected. A David Weaver follow and one at the 4:33 mark put LMHS up 11-6 at the 4:33 of quarter number 1. Cam Hurst did major damage- first going back to back three balls – the last at the 3:40 mark. Savier Sumrall joined the scoring column with a triple and Cam Hurst finished the Blazers coring in the period. Steel High’s Tristan Crawford Jn, 5’11Soph. Scored a layup at the end of the quarter. 22-14 LMHS after one. The Blazers took advantage of multiple turnovers by Steel High in the quarter (9).

LMHS would rip off an 8-0 run to start the second (3 by Halversen, Sumrall follow, Hurst layup, and Sumrall foul shot.In fact the Blazers outscored Steel High 26-7 in the quarter. At one point the lead was 22. Cam Hurst supplied most of the fire power with multiple drives (12 points in the quarter. The half ended at 48-29 LMHS.

Steel High cranked up its defense in the third. The Rollers caused Mennonite to turn the ball over 6 times in the period. Steel High drew the 4th foul on Weaver, leaving the lane unprotected. Steel High cut the lead to 10 a few times in the quarter – the last on an old fashioned three point play by Daquan McCraw. At the end of the quarter, the roller struck again on a layup by McCraw. 59-51 LMHS.

Coach Buckwalter had a decision to make- when to put Weaver back in. Well, LMHS hung tough at the beginning of the quarter getting scoring from Halvorsen, a follow by Chase Hurst 5’7” frosh., a drive by brother Cam. Weaver would enter the game and control the glass the rest of the way. The Blazer rode a 15-0 run in the fourth to salt the game away and punch their ticket to the District 3 2A finals Tues.
