LL coaches give feedback: What’s new?

1) How are you keeping in touch with players or encouraging them to stay at home and stay safe?
We have been keeping in touch through text and social media (we will probably being having a team zoom meeting next week). We would not of started open gyms until 4/6 so until this point it really has not changed anything. I know we have a lot of disappointed athletes who were looking forward to their AAU season which is currently on hold. Hopefully, they are all able to have some sort of AAU season this summer. We are encouraging players to find ways to work on their game. Everyone is in a different situation with what they have available at their house in terms of weights, basket availability, etc. Each player is finding a way to get better and that is most important. We will have more discussion about this next week.
2) How are you doing at work or home ? Family time etc.
My heart really goes out to all of the seniors/spring athletes. I can’t imagine putting in that much time in during the off season only to have your season put on hold. I know at Warwick the students in this senior class have been through so much already and there is not doubt the Warriors will come out of this stronger then ever.
3) Give us something that you would encourage folks at home to do/try…Movie, series, games, activities etc.

We started our online learning experience this week at Cedar Crest. It has been a new experience for me and I have learned so much through this process. So my basement has been transformed into my office where I am putting lessons together and posting them online for my students. It has been great spending with my family. I haven’t had this much time to spend with my family since I began coaching so it has been great. Been spending a lot of time in the driveway with my son and some time with my daughter at the barn taking care of her horse.

I have been catching on my Netflix shows and I would highly recommend Ozark. I am watching the Office a lot as well. As like everyone who loves the game of basketball, I can’t wait for April 19th when the Michael Jordan documentary is aired.

We use coaching apps and texting to stay in touch. As most other teacher/coaches are doing we’re also doing zoom or Google meets with our students as well. I am worried about these guys going forward. 2 week’s is 1 thing. Another 4-8 week’s of this is kinda scary to think about. Feel for them. These are truly their most formative years.
I’ve stayed in pretty good contact overall. They’re communicating their workouts to us using various tech. Been eye opening actually.
My family Is doing ok. Its been surreal. My older son is in his mid 20s. Thinking back, with both my kids being year round athletes, I’ve actually been coaching something pretty much every day for the past 20 straight years. With baseball soccer football aau e.t.c. travel ball. My calendar is normally booked every night with at least 2 things. Coaching multiple hs sports for the last 17 years as well has basically made my daily life completely non stop. In an odd way maybe this is something I/my family may have needed. Nice to take a breath for once. My little guy was playing baseball soccer and aau basketball when all this hit so the craziness was just about to really ramp up.
Things to try at home?? Hmmm? Lotta podcasts. Videos. Puzzles games 🙂 cooking. We did turn our kitchen table into a ping pong table. Just trying to stay in shape really. Doing our best to avoid having to purchase all new coaching gear for the staff being we’ll all be 2 sizes bigger. 😉 Working out daily and I’m doing a 1 hour morning walk to replace the steps I used to get at work. Lotta audio books.
