LL quarter finals- Boys

LS entered the game with a perfect record…you would think there would be some pressure as they take on a Section 2 runner-up , Lebanon. You would think…but…LS continues its march to March. The Pio’s continue to hit three at high percentage and are lead by Ty Burton, 5’10” sop. Burton is soooo tough to guard – he involves his teammates, scores when needed, is lightning quick when he has the ball in his hands, and is deadly from three. The strange thing is his team can win without him, as they did when Burton was nursing an injury. I asked a JV player if they work on threes a lot in practice- yes..then he stated they ‘never miss’. 🙂 Never is something else but LS is highly skilled and no one has figured out how to get on the winning side vs. them.

The Lebanon Cedars scored the first basket on a drive by Marquiz Ferreira, 5’10” sn. The last lead of the game for Lebanon. LS unleashed its three game early-Burton, Isaiah Parido, 6’1” sn, with a lob for Parido sandwiched in between another 3 ball by Burton. 11-2 timeout Cedars. LS would go on another run- Burton drive, Ben Wert three-ball, and 2 fouls by Wert. Lebanon would cut it to 21-10 on a triple by Ferreira, only to have Berkeley Wagner can a three at the end of the quarter. LS 24-10 after one.

Lebanon tightened up its D and started getting the ball inside. A post move by Nate Diaz, 6’3”sn, and a three by Ferreira cut the lead to 4 at 34-30. LS feeling pressure? Well, enter Mr. Burton. HE nailed an NBA three ball, then on LS’ next possession he handled the ball, ran the clock down and pulled up for a 25 footer at the buzzer. LS 40-30.

LS adjustment at half?  Shoot the three ball. Burton started the scoring for the Pios and followed it up with a drive; 45-30 early 3rd. Another burst by LS- Luka Vranich follow, Parido triple, and ANOTHER Parido triple. 55-35 and basically game over. Luke Hines, 6’2” jn, would have a nice game off the bench (7 points). He scored his first off a Bruton assist- Ty did an ankle breaker crossover drew the D and dished to Hines. 59-42 after three.

LS held serve in the 4th. Both teams emptied the bench with about 3 minus es to go.
Final 73-53.
