Manheim Central 67 Warwick 60 (OT)
Jan. 17, 2023

Warwick has been the dominant team in Section 2 for many moons. Manheim Central actually had a one game lead coming into the game (4-0). Warwick had its long home winning streak snapped. The Barons could have folded a few times: 1) when top scorer, Trey Grube , drew his third foul in the middle of the third  2) when Warwick popped 3 three-balls in succession to take a 43-38 lead in the beginning of the 4th. Central crawled back into the game – had a chance to win in regulation. Warwick hit the first 2 points of OT only to watch Central go on an 8-0 and seal the deal.

The play was physical throughout as noted by Manheim Central scoring 8 of their 12 points in the first stanza from the line. Warwick face guarded Trey Grube, 5”11” sn, Like literally. Where ever he went. Grube netted 6 point in the period all from the line. Warwick’s Carter Hosrt, 6’1” jn, provided 4 points in the period for the home team. Aaron Enterline, 6’3” jn, finished the scoring for Central with a nice Euro-step layup. 12-9 Central after one.

Neither team could put together runs more than 5-0 in the second period- partly due to each team digging in on the defensive end. Warwick had 9 turnovers in the period, which limited their scoring. Both coaches played several players in their rotation and messaged any foul issues that they faced. Warwick cut the lead a few times to 1 point only to see the Barons fight back and claim the lead. A Trevor Evans layup ended the scoring in the second. 28-25 Central at the break.

Again in the third, we witnessed bodies all over the place. Each and every rebound seemed to have 3-4 players scrapping to gain control Warwick took a 1 point lead at the 2:46 mark off a Johnsen foul shot. Central would again answer- A big time three ball by Jackson Tracy, 5’9” jn, which was followed up by a super sweet spin move by Enterline. A Johnsen layup for the Warriors ended the scoring: 36-34 Central after 3.

The Warriors finally got the three-ball working. Evans, Horst, and Evans again gave Warwick a 43-38 lead at the 6:25 mark. Central would answer (all night long it seemed). Following a foul shot by Enterline for MC, the Warriors would come up empty, and Grube hit a drive at 5:20 mark. Warwick by 2. Thomas Jeanes, 6’5” jn, netted an old fashion three point play putting the Warriors up 46-41. Central yet again would have an answer. Three foul shots by Grube, then a triple by Grube, then a triple by Zach Benner, 6’ sn, saw the Barons take the lead at 50-49 with 2:22 on the clock. Horst nailed a three ball for the Warriors, only to see Central (replay) come back yet again. Benner scored a bucket at the 1:08 mark of the fourth to tie the score. Neither team could score on their last possessions- OT we go 52 all.

Warwick netted the first basket in OT. Only to see……well you get the idea. Jackson Tracy nailed a three-ball, Sam Witmer, 6’2” jn, sank 2 foul shots, Chase Book, 6’ freshman canned a three-ball to give the Barons a 60-54 lead. Horst made one foul shot for Warwick, but the Warriors could not get another basket until a very late three. Central was good at the keep away game as Grube would handle most of the time and made 3/4 foul shots to clinch the contest.
