Boys 5A Semis
Feb. 27

The word of the night? HOT – as in the Barons were HOT – like RED HOT.
Central would can 7 three-balls in the first half, and survived a brief Mechicsburg run in the third to claim a spot in the District 3 5A finals vs. Exeter on Thursday at the Giant Center in Hershey (every District 3 players dream!)

Chase Book, 6’ freshman, started the party off with a triple for Manheim. The Barons ran out to a 15-7 lead with 4 minutes to go in period one. Five different Barons entered the book (3 by Book, a layup by Zach Benner, a layup by Aaron Enterline, three-ball by Trey Grube, a layup by Jackson Tracy, and finally a triple by Book.)  Mechanicsburg responded with some long distance shooting as well. Chance Yanoski, 6’2” sophomore, popped back to back threes and also scores on a layup to keep the Wildcats within striking distance. Yanoski had an excellent game game from distance as he treid to keep the Wildcats in the game. Seth Brubaker, 6”3” sn , scored the last bucket of the quarter for the Wildcats. Central 26- 15 after one.

Could Central keep the HOT shooting up? One wouldn’t think so, but…The Barons scored the first 8 points of the second period (another 3 ball by Book, Grube layup and a triple by Collin Neiles 6’ sn.) Mechicsburg would fight back cutting the lead to 34-22. However, every time the Wildcats would make a mini-run, the Barons would answer. Central scored the last 5 points of the quarter- the last points on a ….yep triple by Neiles. 41-24 Barons at the break. Our friend at LNP, Mike Gross had the Barons shooting 16/19 for the half. Like I said HOT…like REAL HOT.

No way the Barons could keep the shooting at that pace. Well, no.  But, the Barons went on another mini-run 5-0 to start the third, while holding the Wildcats scoreless for the first 2 1/2 minutes of the third. The Wildcats would go on an 8-0 to cut the lead to 14. Central ended the period an yet another run- this time 9-2 to basically put the game away. 55 – 34 Central favor heading into the 4th.

The last Baron run occurred at the beginning of the 4th. This time a 6-0 run (lay-up by Book and 2 Grube drives) stretched the lead to 61-36. The game got a bit sloppy for the rest of the contest (6 turnovers a piece), and a lot of stopped action due to fouling. Mr Aaron Enterline would go back to back dunks to set the crowd off – the last at 45 second mark. Game, set, match.

Sidelines…Another sell out at Doe Run Elementary – makes it a bit easier for admin at the door-“Just show me your tix”. …Lots of media coverage, which happens at district level- PennLive , Carlisle Sentinel, 717, LNP, Lititz Review…Coach Gaffey always puts one a good show…Coach Fisher came from the Gaffey tree in a round about way…thought we would see multiple timeouts by both teams early. Coach Gaffey did..Coach Fisher did not :)…Coach Fisher talked to his team about “32 more minutes” and handed his kids Hershey bars after the game…Dell promised another “dance” if the Barons win Thurs. Very very difficult to jump up with Aaron Enterline- make that impossible for this writer but the effort was there!
