McCaskey won a tight back and forth game with Hempfield. The Knights dropped their second game in a row, which drops them into 3rd in the Section 1 race. McCaskey played itself back into contention with a huge road W.

Hempfield started out very quickly. With 6 players scoring at least 2 points in the first quarter, the Knights ran out to a 16-7 lead early. A quick timeout by McCaskey seemed to settle things down for the Tornado. McCaskey ripped off a 6-0 run after the TO. 19-15 Hempfield after the first period.

McCaskey turned up the defensive pressure in the second stanza- forcing 7 turnovers in the period. J’Nai Ayala-Hunter a 5’9” sn guard, provided the defensive pressure that helped force the Hempfield turnovers. He was mainly assigned Miguel Pena, Hempfield’s top scoring guard.
Jonathan Byrd, 5”10’ Jn, sparked the Tornado on the offensive end- popping threes and driving to the hoop. Bryd hit Shamell Burke for a lay-up mid -way thru the second to pull McCaskey to within one at 23-22. The scoring would slow down as the last basket by Byrd gave McCaskey a 26-25 lead at the break.

Both teams would take short-lived leads in the third. McCaskey’s jn guard, De’Shaun McFadden, hit a deep three ball to put McCaskey up 30-27. Hempfield would fight back and take a 4 point lead off baskets by Cole Overbaugh (drive and lay-up), Michael Rieker (3 and a lay-up off a steal) . McCaskey would counter by scoring the last 2 buckets of the quarter. 40 ALL after 3.

Michael Rieker nailed a three ball to give the Knights a brief lead – 43-40. High scoring guard, Hassan Williams, answered with a three ball for the Tornado. Back and forth we go. Byrd hits a tough old fashioned 3 pt play to give McCaskey a 46-44 lead- one which they would not relinquish. A Miguel Pena 3 would give Hempfield hope at the 35 second mark- 51-49. McCaskey would take the fouls but missed 2 one plus fouls, but the Knights could not capitalize on the opening. 51-49 final.
