McCaskey earned its first ‘W’ of the season defeating Chichester in the consolation game of the Tornado tip off tournament. The 2:00 pm start was not conducive of a large crowd, as opposed to the first night of the tournament, but the teams generated their own energy. Neither team would put together more than 6-0 runs during the contest. The Tornado is getting used to a new cast of players and embracing a return of Jared Kumah, 6’6’ ish (McCaskey does list heights on their roster). Kuhmah was named all tournament team for McCaskey as he produced a double-double. He also added 2 break away dunks to the delight of the sparse crowd.

The first period was typical of a feeling out stanza. McCaskey had 5 different players crack the scoring column, with a dunk by Kumah mid-way thru the first. Both teams played mostly man with the Tornado throwing up a 1-3-1 at times. Chichester was led by Carlton Gordy, 6’3” sn, Gordy popped 3 three-balls- his last gave Chichester its 15-14 lead at the end of the quarter.

Things slowed down a bit in the second stanza, mostly due to multiple turnovers by both teams (7 for Chichester and 6 for McCaskey). McCaskey closed out the quarter on a 6-0 run with Kumah scoring the last 6 pints of the quarter (yet another dunk for one of his buckets). Gordy put Chichester up 27-21 before the Tornado ended the quarter on their run. 27 all heading into the second half.

McCaskey scored the first 5 points in the third (three-ball by Kaiden Russell and a drive by De’Andre Jones) 32-27 McCaskey. Chichester answered with buckets by Hamza Clay and Warren Wideman -2) to takes its last lead of the game at 33-32. DeAndre Jones netted 10 points in the stanza, 43-39 after 3.

Chichester had its own 6-0 in the beginning of the 4th. Buckets by Gordy and 2 by Clay tied the game at 45 all at the 5:22 mark. Timeout McCaskey. A good timeout as the the Tornado went on a mini 5-0 run, capped off by a drive by Aiden Burgess. 51-45 Tornado heading into the stretch run. The first ‘W’ is always a bit tough to achieve. Chichester turned McCaskey over 7 times in the quarter and tied the game with 53 ticks left on a triple by Wideman at 53. A Russel bucket on the next possession provided the Tornado with the lead at 55-53. McCaskey would hit 1/4 fouls shots late to allow Chichester a shot to tie or lead but the shot fell off the rim.
