Lancaster Catholic Girls Advance 46-29 Over Cocalico

Written by: Bruce Badgley on February 25, 2021

(Lancaster) A little over a week ago Lancaster Catholic came away with a two point win on their home floor over Cocalico.  Fast  forward to Thursday night and a rematch in the Lancaster Lebanon League Tourney Semifinal.  The game was expected to be just as hard fought and close as the first. Catholic came out in the rematch game on a mission. The Crusaders defense was smothering all night,  especially in the paint.  After a quick start,  Lancaster Catholic played solid mistake free basketball the rest of the way and came away with a 46-29 win over Cocalico.  The victory put the Crusaders in the L-L Tourney Championship game Saturday going for a fourth straight title vs Hempfield.

Catholics floor general Freshman Mary Bolesky led a balanced Crusader scoring attack with 11  As usual, Cocalico’s standout Hannah Custer was their leading scorer with 15.

Liz Zwally’s opening possession three set the tone for the first quarter.  Catholic was out to an 11-3 lead after one.

Despite some mini runs in the 2nd by Cocalico, the Crusaders maintain a 9 point advantage at the break.

The Eagles can’t match the Crusaders inside. Catholic  moves the lead out to 36-19 after three quarters.

Now leery of a comeback by Cocalico, Lancaster Catholic played a deliberate fourth quarter to secure the victory.
