SCRANTON— With 30 seconds left and the game tied at 49, Scranton Prep called a timeout and drew up a potential game-winning play. However, they would never get a shot off.
When the ball was inbounded, the Abington Heights defense collapsed and trapped Scranton Prep, forcing a turnover that was immediately followed by a timeout with 3.6 seconds left. It was now Ken Bianchi’s opportunity draw up a winning play. The Comets got the ball to Harry Johnson in the paint and he took care of the rest with a fade away bucket as time expired to give Abington Heights the victory in this highly contested game.
Johnson came up clutch for the Comets tonight leading the team with 14 points and going 4-4 from the FT line in the fourth quarter, critical points as the Cavaliers were mounting a comeback.’
The Cavs were trailing all night and could not take advantage of several opportunities. Prep’s offense relied solely on 2-point FGs for the first 30 points of the game. Michael Skoff would make their only 3-pointers on the night with a pair of them. The Cavs also struggled at the line hitting just 1 of 6 chances on the night compared to Abington’s 12-16 from the charity stripe.
Robert Rossi would lead all scorers with 20 points, hitting 10 FGs.
