CB West Too Much For Crestwood

Central Bucks West 43, Crestwood 39

MOUNTAIN TOP – On an almost balmy January afternoon, Central Bucks West made the nearly 2-hour trip to take on Crestwood, one the premier teams in District 2 this season.  The Bucks (9-4), a solid 6A squad from District 1 (who compete in the SOL Continental Division) bought a ton of energy and excitement into the gym.  CB West has terrific balance all over the floor, just enough height, and plenty of senior leadership.  The Comets, who came into the game with a 10-1 record, were up to the challenge,

After taking an 8-6 first period lead (via baskets by Jacob Zaleski, Brad Papura, Ryan Petrosky, and Paul Feisel), CB West finished the stanza with a 5-0 run, keyed by an Owen Haney layup and three-point play by Mika Munari.  In the second quarter, a strong baseline drive by Munari gave the Bucks a 13-8 lead, but Crestwood rallied with an 11-2 run as the Comets took a 19-15 edge following a Feisel triple.  Ryan Petrosky would later connect on another triple to give his team their largest lead of the game (24-19), but it was short-lived as Munari would respond with his own trey.  The first half ended with a putback by Teddy Spratt just before the buzzer to knot the game at 26.

The third period featured some patient offense by the Bucks along with a scoring spurt by senior Jack Neri to give CB West a 34-26 lead.  Crestwood responded with a triple by Mike Zaleski and basket by Jacob Zaleski to trim to gap to three points (34-31) and bring the home crowd to their feet.  After a Spratt triple and traditional 3-point play by Brad Papura, the stanza ended at 37-34 in favor of West.  The final period began as Petrosky cut the lead to a single point (37-36) at the 6:42 mark, but that’s when the pace slowed way down.  The Bucks got a layup by Neri at the 1:50 mark and then a basket plus a pair of free throws by Munari to take a commanding 43-36 lead in the closing moments.  The Comets hit a triple and had a few more possessions in the final half minute, but dropped the game by a score of 43-39.

Overall, this was a very entertaining matchup.  Central Bucks West was led by Mika Munari (18 points) and Jack Neri (10 points) while Crestwood was paced by Ryan Petrosky (11 points) and Jacob Zaleski (10 points).  Keep an eye on CB West as they could make some noise in the District 1 playoffs.
