WRIGHT TOWNSHIP – Facing elimination, Crestwood caught fire en route to a convincing 80-46 win over Pittston Area to pull into an incredible 5-way tie for first place in the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 race.  Earlier in the season, the Comets struggled on the Patriots’ home floor, only scoring 34 points in the loss. They would surpass that total before halftime as Crestwood put on an offensive clinic in this one.

The Comets generated 11 steals and went 7-12 from beyond the arc in the first half as they built a commanding 41-16 lead.

In the second half, Crestwood would not take their foot off the gas pedal as they increased their lead to beyond 30 points. The Comets would pull their starters with over four minutes remaining in the game in favor of getting their senior players some added game time in their last [scheduled] home game.

The Patriots struggled against Crestwood‘s defense as no player would score 8 or more points in the game. Brennan Higgins and J.J. Walsh, Pittston Area’s top scoring threats, would combine for only 12 points and two field-goals on the night.

Ryan Petroski would have a career night, scoring 28 points for the Comets.

With losses by both frontrunners, Pittston Area and Hazleton Area, five teams are now tied atop Division 1 of the WVC with one more game on the regular season schedule on Saturday.  Dallas, Pittston Area and Wilkes-Barre Area all play squads which have been eliminated while Crestwood travels to face top rival Hazleton Area in an elimination match-up.
