YATESVILLE – The four-way division tie has finally dwindled down to one champion. Crestwood defeated Wilkes-Barre Area Thursday night 52-31 to win the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 title.
Crestwood will next meet Wyoming Seminary (WVC Division 2 champion) at Berwick Saturday night for the conference title.
The two regular season matchups between the Pack and the Comets went down to the wire, but this time Crestwood found that extra edge to give them a convincing victory.
Blake Masker, one of the Wolfpack’s dominant forces in the paint, started the game but was on restricted minutes due to a recovering ankle injury. With Masker’s absence the Comets repeatedly attacked the paint to establish an early lead.
The hot-shooting Comets (32 triples in their last three games) only needed four from long-range tonight as they found success driving to the basket. The ended the first half on a 12-2 run as Ryan Petrosky contributed 9 of them.
Brandon Hall was the main threat for WBA, recording a double-double (15 points and 10 rebounds).
The Wolfpack struggled offensively all evening from the arc, not connecting on a single triple. Their shooting woes continued through the final period as they could only muster four points. Crestwood was able to neutralize the Wolfpack’s leading 3-point shooter, Matt Egidio, holding him scoreless for the entire game.
Petrosky led all scorers with 18 points for the Comets. Michael Zaleski added 9 points off the bench.
The Wolfpack would only have four players on the scoresheet; led by Hall with 15 points, Cole Walker and Blake Masker with 6 plus Saquan Portee with 4.
