SCRANTON— January brings snow and rivalries. On Tuesday night, we got both. Inside the Student Union Gymnasium (at Lackawanna College), Scranton and West Scranton faced off in an early Lackawanna League Division 1 battle.  Or maybe, the “City Battle” says it all.

Both teams got off to a slow start with a total of 5 points being scored within the first five minutes. West Scranton would go on to lead after the first quarter, 8-3.  Kevin Lazdowsky (Scranton) would score all 3 points for the Knights in the opening period.

In the second quarter, Scranton would find success working the ball into the paint, cutting the Invader’s lead it to 3 at halftime,13-6.  However, after the break West Scranton would go on an 11-2 run that the Knights would never be able to match.

Early in the final period, Scranton would cut the Invader’s lead to 9, but could not make up any more ground. Scranton struggled to find success from beyond the arc, only making one triple in the game. Brandon Barnes (West Scranton) would lead the game in scoring with 15. Kevin Lazdowsky and Jason Shields would lead the Knights with 11 each.
