Hazleton Area Cruises by Pittston Area

HAZLETON— After an upset loss to Berwick on Monday, Hazleton Area came out tonight with a message. The message was well heard as Hazleton Area thrashed Pittston Area, 71-31.

Pittston Area got off to a slow start and did not score their first point until the 2:50 mark of the first quarter, spotting Hazleton Area 11 points. In the last 2:50 of the first quarter, the Lady Patriots outscored Hazleton Area 11-6, but still trailed 11-17 at the end of the opening period.

In the second quarter a similar story occurred as the Lady Cougars would score 12 unanswered points before Pittston Area would get on the scoresheet. At the end of the first half, the Lady Cougars had built a commanding lead, 33-17.

The second half was all-too-familiar, as Pittston Area continued to struggle from the field.  Hazleton Area continued to build their lead and would take this one from Pittston, 71-31.

The Lady Cougars were lights-out from long-range, hitting 5-11 threes in the game, led by Brooke Boretski who made 2 triples and led the game with 17 points. Hazleton Area had four players reach double digit points.

Hannah Getz was the Lady Pats main contributor with 14 points, including scoring the first points for them in the first and second quarter and scoring their only FG in the third quarter.
