Girls AA Championship Game Rematch

Holy Cross Lady Crusaders 43, Old Forge Lady Devils 67

OLD FORGE — Last March, Holy Cross bested Old Forge, 43-38, for the District 2 AA Girls’ title, but tonight was a much different story.

After losing to last year’s PIAA AAA state runner-up, Dunmore, on Friday, Old Forge faced off against the reigning District 2 AA champions in what is a very tough way to start their conference schedule.

After a back and forth 1st quarter, in which Holy Cross led most of the time, Old Forge had a strong finish to take a 14-10 lead entering the 2nd quarter.

After Olivia Ciullo (Old Forge) hit a buzzer beater layup to end the first, she turned it on in the 2nd by scoring the first 6 points of the quarter. Abbey Lentowski ended the run with a 3 FG but the damaged had been and Old Forge would roll through the period outscoring Holy Cross, 21-11.  Olivia Ciullo would add 12 points alone in the 2nd as Old Forge built a 35-21 halftime lead.

Old Forge would maintain control of the game in the second half and take the final by a 67-43 score.
