Lady Royals Tighten Grip on WVC Division 2

Holy Redeemer 70, Lake Lehmans 55

WILKES-BARRE – Monday night featured the top two teams atop the Wyoming Valley Conference Girls Division 2 in a pivotal matchup as the regular season winds down. With a win, Lake-Lehman would tie Holy Redeemer for the division lead.  A loss for the Lady Knights would lower the Lady Royals’ magic number to one and almost secure a division crown for Holy Redeemer.

With a high-powered first quarter capped by five triples, Holy Redeemer built a 20-9 advantage that they would only build on en route to their 70-55 victory.

A strong defensive effort from Holy Redeemer stymied the Lady Knights’ offense and only allowed them a few good looks at the basket. The Lady Royals were focused on contesting every shot and set on preventing Lake-Lehman from getting into a groove.

Jillian DelBalso had a special night where she played most of the JV game and then followed it up by starting in the varsity game for Holy Redeemer. She would make the Royals’ first 6 points of the game, finishing with 10.

Chase Purdy, a key fixture in Lake Lehman‘s defense, faced foul trouble early on and only saw limited action on the court.

Sarah Salus led the Lady Knights with 26 points.

Sam Yencha would lead Holy Redeemer to the win with 27 points.

Holy Redeemer needs just one win in their next two games, against either MMI Prep or Wyoming Seminary (or a loss by Lake-Lehman) to secure the WVC Division 2 championship.
