BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jeremy Callahan (5-11 senior guard) reached the 1,000 point scoring plateau last week in helping Wyoming Seminary post a pair of impressive wins over perennial 5A district contenders. On Wednesday, he netted 23 points in a 53-46 road win over Abington Heights. Two night later, he contributed 22 points as the Blue Knights toppled previously undefeated Crestwood, 52-41. Over the two-game span, the senior guard connected on 8 triples.
Cayden Merrifield (5-11 junior guard) is a big reason why West Scranton has logged five consecutive wins after a season-opening loss to Dunmore. The junior guard scored 17 points in their 39-37 win over Mid Valley. Then, in Monday’s 72-69 win over Williamsport, Merrifield has a huge game for the Invaders, hitting 34 points including 4 triples.
GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Lauren Charlton (6-0 senior guard/forward) is anchoring a very balanced Dallas squad. She scored 9 points last Thursday as the Lady Mounts defeated top rival Lake-Lehman, 51-40. The versatile wing player then contributed 11 points (with 3 treys) in a 51-27 win over Susquehanna Community. On Monday, the UPenn-bound senior netted 15 points in their 67-36 victory over Lakeland.
Moriah Murray (5-9 sophomore guard) is picking up where she left off and a key reason why Dunmore is off to a 5-0 start. She scored 13 points when the Lady Bucks traveled to the Lehigh Valley, getting a 50-27 win over 6A Parkland. Against Mount Carmel, she hit 22 points in a 54-45 victory over the Red Tornadoes. Then, on Monday, in a much-anticipated matchup with Holy Redeemer, the sophomore guard netted 29 points (with 4 triples) in their 59-41 win over the Lady Royals.
