BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Roland Hamad (6-1 senior forward) helped Wyoming Valley West get their first two wins of the season, capturing the championship of the James M. Akens holiday tournament.  He scored 11 points in their semi-final win over Old Forge.  Then, in the title game, the senior forward netted 15 points, 11 coming in a big third period when the Spartans rallied for a 72-62 win over host North Pocono.

Elijah Rosenthal (6-0 senior guard) is one of the top contributors for Wallenpaupack, the only remaining undefeated boys’ team in District 2.  He hit 18 points as the Buckhorns defeated previously unbeaten East Stroudsburg South, 64-43, in the opening round of the Honesdale Jaycees 60th holiday tourney.  The senior guard then netted 29 points in their championship-clinching 56-43 win over host Honesdale.

GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Marissa Trivelpiece (6-0 senior forward) is anchoring a very experienced and balanced Hazleton Area squad.  The do-it-all playmaker scored 11 points in their 70-40 semi-final tourney win over Marion Center.  The multi-sport, Michigan State bound senior then added 18 points as the Lady Cougars defeated host Punxsutawney 63-44 to secure the Carl Truance Classic championship.  Trivelpiece also grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked 5 shots.

Kylie Lavelle (6-1 sophomore guard) had an incredible performance for Riverside at the 34th Taylor Lions holiday tournament.  She lit up the scoreboard with 41 points in their 72-61 semi-final win over Greater Nanticoke Area.  The sophomore guard then scored 22 points as the Lady Vikings secured the title with a 58-39 win over West Scranton.  On Monday, Lavelle chipped in with 16 points as her team remained undefeated with a 76-24 victory over Montrose.
