BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Rhys Merritt (6-7 senior forward) is leading the way for Scranton Prep and helped the Cavaliers to a pair of impressive Lackawanna League wins last week.  He scored 16 points in a come-from-behind crossover victory over North Pocono on Tuesday.  Then, on Friday night against Scranton, the senior forward netted 24 points (including 5 triples) as the Cavs defeated the Knights 58-38 to take over first place in Division 1 play.

Scotty Campbell (6-2 senior guard) is a key contributor to a Hazleton Area lineup that has shown rapid development in recent games.  The returning senior guard hit 25 points (including 5 treys) in their 81-52 win over Wyoming Valley West last Tuesday.  On Saturday evening, he scored 16 points as the Cougars rallied for an important 60-56 win over Pittston Area, moving to 3-0 in division action.

GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Taylor Huyck (5-10 senior guard) had a pair of solid efforts to help guide Susquehanna Community to first place in Lackawanna League Division 4 play.  The senior guard netted 23 points on as the Lady Sabers rallied from a 13-point deficit entering the final period to defeat Montrose, 47-43, in double overtime last Monday.  Against Elk Lake on Thursday, she added 19 points (with 3 triples) in a 61-33 win.

Katie Starr (5-11 junior forward) has been playing well for Berwick, one of several teams in a very exciting Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 race.  She hit 9 points for the Lady Dawgs in their come-from-behind 32-31 upset over Hazleton Area last Monday.  The versatile junior forward then contributed 15 points as Berwick rolled over Nanticoke Area, 57-34.  Then, on Saturday in a showdown against Dallas, Starr netted 18 points but her team came up short in a 50-43 overtime loss.
