BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jack Farrell (6-4 senior forward) has helped guide Dallas to a 5-game winning streak and into a tie for second place in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 play. He scored 17 points as the Mountaineers defeated Wyoming Valley West, 64-48, last Tuesday. On Thursday, he netted 18 points in a 49-48 victory over Pittston Area. The senior forward also tallied 18 points in another big win on Saturday as the Mounts defeated Crestwood, 68-54, in a physical match-up.
Brandon Reed (5-10 junior guard) is part of a 1-2 scoring punch that has Riverside climbing the Lackawanna League Division 3 standings. He contributed 8 points as the Vikings defeated top rival Old Forge last Monday, 76-66. On Friday night, the junior guard connected on 27 points in a 73-41 win over Carbondale. The next night, Reed would duplicate that with another 27 points as the Vikes got a victory over Dunmore, 55-48.
GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Trinity Johnson (6-1 sophomore forward) is a key reason why Wyoming Valley West recently won 3 out of 4 games after beginning the season at 4-10. She hit 22 points as the Lady Spartans got a 51-46 overtime win over Dallas. The sophomore then netted 13 points as WVW defeated Pittston Area, 44-34. Monday night, in a 50-35 loss to powerhouse Hazleton Area, Johnson contributed 13 points.
Carena Colo (5-7 junior guard) has been a solid contributor for North Pocono. Last Monday, she scored 13 points as the Lady Trojans defeated Honesdale, 62-51. Then in Thursday’s emotional Pink Game against Abington Heights, the junior guard contributed 15 points in a loss as the Lady Comets pulled away in the final period for a 53-44 win. Then, on Monday in a close 50-48 crossover victory over Scranton, Colo netted 13 points.
