BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Justice Shoats (5-11 sophomore guard) has been a superb floor-leader in guiding Holy Redeemer to an 11-1 mark so far in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 play, one game out of first place. He scored 16 points last Tuesday in a 65-35 victory over Northwest Area. On Friday night against a motivated Tunkhannock squad, the sophomore netted 12 points in a 52-47 win over the Tigers. This week, Shoats hit 22 points as the Royals defeated Lake-Lehman, 59-47.
Kieran Burrier (5-10 senior guard) has led Holy Cross to current sole possession of the top spot in Lackawanna League Division 3 action. Last Tuesday he netted 22 points as the Crusaders defeated Old Forge, 40-27. Then, in what may go down as the regular season game-of-the-year, the senior guard contributed 33 points in a pulsating double overtime 76-72 win over Lakeland.
GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Deanna Wallace (5-6 junior guard) has played a key role in elevating Dallas to a first-place tie in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 play. She scored 16 points in a 57-36 victory over Berwick last Monday. On Thursday, the junior guard added 11 points in a 60-49 win over Wilkes-Barre Area. Then, in a showdown this week against Hazleton Area, Wallace kept the Lady Mounts’ momentum going for a 61-52 win over the Lady Cougars as she scored 17 points. Over the 3 games, she connected on 8 triples.
Rachel Rose (5-6 junior guard) has been a steady contributor for undefeated Scranton Prep. Last Monday, she scored 21 points as the Classics defeated Western Wayne, 71-29. Then, in a 57-32 victory over West Scranton, the junior guard added 22 points. This week, Rose hit 19 points in a 65-34 win over Scranton. Over the 3 games, she tallied 8 treys.
