BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Ryan Petrosky (6-2 junior guard) has been a catalyst in leading Crestwood to the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 Championship game. He scored 10 points last week in a last second loss to Wilkes-Barre Area. Then, in a pair of must-win situations against the division front-runners, the junior guard came up big. He netted 28 points with 3 triples in an 80-46 win over Pittston Area. On Saturday against top rival Hazleton Area, Petrosky again netted a trio of treys (16 points) to lead the Comets to a 56-53 win to grab onto a four-way tie for the division lead. In Monday night’s division semi-final playoff, he netted 19 points (including 3 triples) to defeat Dallas, 82-54.
Garrett Decker (5-8 junior guard) has helped Susquehanna Community finish Lackawanna League Division 4 play on a strong note, winning four games in a row. He scored 17 points as the Sabers defeated current division leader Mountain View, 52-51, on Saturday. On Tuesday, the junior guard contributed 13 points in a 50-38 victory over Lackawanna Trail, who has led the division much of the season.
GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Riley Baird (sophomore guard) has played a key role for Nanticoke Area. Even though the Trojanettes came up short in three games, it was by a total of 8 points. She scored 11 points in a 45-43 loss to Wyoming Valley West last Monday. On Wednesday, in a close 54-51 loss to eventual Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champion Dallas, she netted 18 points with a pair of triples. On Saturday, the sophomore guard hit 19 points in a 49-46 loss to Pittston Area.
Nya Johnson (5-9 senior guard) has been a part of a dynamic backcourt duo for West Scranton. She scored 19 points in a 50-40 loss to Abington Heights last Thursday. On Saturday in a non-league match-up against Hanover Area, the senior guard hit 23 points in a 76-40 victory. Monday night, Johnson netted 16 points (including career 1,000) in a 46-38 win over city rival Scranton. On Wednesday night, the Lady Invader standout contributed 13 points in a 48-46 win over Valley View.
