BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Ryan Petrosky (6-2 junior guard) has been a catalyst in leading Crestwood to the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 Championship game.  He scored 10 points last week in a last second loss to Wilkes-Barre Area.  Then, in a pair of must-win situations against the division front-runners, the junior guard came up big.  He netted 28 points with 3 triples in an 80-46 win over Pittston Area.  On Saturday against top rival Hazleton Area, Petrosky again netted a trio of treys (16 points) to lead the Comets to a 56-53 win to grab onto a four-way tie for the division lead.  In Monday night’s division semi-final playoff, he netted 19 points (including 3 triples) to defeat Dallas, 82-54.

Garrett Decker (5-8 junior guard) has helped Susquehanna Community finish Lackawanna League Division 4 play on a strong note, winning four games in a row.  He scored 17 points as the Sabers defeated current division leader Mountain View, 52-51, on Saturday.  On Tuesday, the junior guard contributed 13 points in a 50-38 victory over Lackawanna Trail, who has led the division much of the season.

GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Riley Baird (sophomore guard) has played a key role for Nanticoke Area.  Even though the Trojanettes came up short in three games, it was by a total of 8 points.  She scored 11 points in a 45-43 loss to Wyoming Valley West last Monday.  On Wednesday, in a close 54-51 loss to eventual Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champion Dallas, she netted 18 points with a pair of triples.  On Saturday, the sophomore guard hit 19 points in a 49-46 loss to Pittston Area.

Nya Johnson (5-9 senior guard) has been a part of a dynamic backcourt duo for West Scranton.  She scored 19 points in a 50-40 loss to Abington Heights last Thursday.  On Saturday in a non-league match-up against Hanover Area, the senior guard hit 23 points in a 76-40 victory.  Monday night, Johnson netted 16 points (including career 1,000) in a 46-38 win over city rival Scranton.  On Wednesday night, the Lady Invader standout contributed 13 points in a 48-46 win over Valley View.
